What Are the Benefits of Having a Root Canal?

What Are the Benefits of Having a Root Canal in Calgary AB Area?

Having a damaged tooth is no fun. It can be quite painful. Dental root canals are just one way your Calgary AB dentist can save your tooth and eliminate other problems that can arise if you are forced to lose a tooth. Deciding to have a root canal performed is one of the best ways to maintain the natural balance within your mouth.

Saves Your Natural Tooth

One of the best reasons to have a root canal performed is that it saves your natural tooth’s structure. After the tooth’s interior has been taken out, your dentist will fill it with a hard polymer resin. Once the resin hardens, it will be just as hard as the exterior of the tooth. It is less likely to crack or split and will help your tooth maintain its place in your jaw without shifting or breaking down.

Maintains the Integrity of Your Jawbone

Every time you lose a tooth, you risk losing more of your jawbone as well. If the jawbone does not have anything to anchor to, such as the root of a tooth, it can begin to wear away. That is part of why individuals who wear dentures often have a sunken appearance when their dentures are not in place. With a root canal, your tooth will maintain its position and remain connected to your jawbone.

Keeps Your Teeth from Shifting

Shifting teeth can mess with the alignment of your teeth. If you lose a tooth, the other teeth next to it try to shift into the open space. It alters the alignment of your teeth and may eventually irritate the joints in your jaw. Maintaining proper alignment of your teeth makes sure that your food is thoroughly broken down and prevents jaw pain.
