Situations That You May Not Consider Serious But Which May Actually Be A Dental Emergency

Emergency Tooth Care in Calgary AB Area

For many, a dental emergency is an incredibly stressful situation. This is especially true if the dental emergency involves trauma concerning a broken tooth or blood. At Lake Chaparral Dental Care in Calgary, Alberta, Dr. Palka Sawhney Sharma understands this and is here for you with calming advice and caring treatment to help you through your urgent dental concerns. However, there is another camp of people who will put off going to the dentist as long as it is humanly possible, even if they find themselves in a dental emergency. If you ignore a dental emergency that may not seem as urgent, such as a toothache, you could be putting your dental health at risk.

Dental Emergencies You Should Not Ignore

If you find yourself in the middle of a dental emergency, you should call your dentist as soon as possible. Here are some specific dental emergencies which you will not want to ignore.

  • Bleeding: While some blood in the mouth may not seem like such a big deal, the reality is that there are a lot of bacteria in the mouth, and you should prevent this from happening. So, if you have bleeding in the mouth, you should consider this a red flag. A minor example is when your gums bleed when you brush or floss. This is a red flag that you are likely experiencing gum disease. If there is blood in your saliva, it could mean something very serious, like advanced gum disease or oral cancer.
  • Bump: A bump in the mouth could be an early indicator of the development of oral cancer. If you find a lump in your mouth, see your dentist immediately.
  • Oral Sores: If you get oral sores that are not going away, it is time to visit your dentist. See your dentist if you have frequently occurring sores or if you are having difficulty swallowing due to the sore.
