Patients in Calgary, AB ask, “Can Invisalign treatment be completed during pregnancy?”
At Lake Chaparral Dental Care, in Calgary, AB, Dr. Palka Sawhney Sharma and her team of professionals are often approached by patients who are interested in Invisalign treatment to achieve a straighter smile. However, they may have questions for their dentist regarding the procedures. We are pleased to provide patients with the answers to their questions regarding Invisalign services.
Can I start Invisalign treatment during pregnancy?
Women who are pregnant may be worried about the activities they pursue due to the health and wellness of their body and their baby. Invisalign aligner therapy is safe for women to start regardless of how far into their pregnancy they are.
What age can I seek Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign treatment can be done for patients as young as seven and for adults of any age. It is never too late for patients to seek treatment for their misaligned teeth. At our practice, we encourage children to have an evaluation done by a dentist to determine if they are appropriate candidates for Invisalign or if they need to seek traditional orthodontics. Many adults come to our practice seeking realignment of the smile and are typically great candidates for Invisalign trays.
What does Invisalign look like?
Patients who choose to move forward with Invisalign will often consider it because of its benefits. One of the primary reasons Invisalign is so popular is because it helps in realigning the smile in a fast and discreet manner. Patients wear their trays over their dental arch day and night to help in moving the teeth into better positions for function and beauty. Because the trays are difficult for others to notice, adult patients desire this treatment – especially if they are in careers where the first impression they give to others is important.
Who is a candidate?
Any candidate with mild to moderate malocclusion may want to ask our dentist about the advantages of using Invisalign.

How are Invisalign trays made?
Patients who choose to use Invisalign to enhance their smiles will undergo a series of digital x-rays and molds that show through computer software the alignment of the teeth in their current positions. Then, the professionals at the Invisalign laboratory will use the digital x-rays to make a series of trays that will be worn to get the results. The Invisalign trays are made of clear, medical-grade plastic and are practically invisible when patients are wearing them – allowing them to look and feel their best as their smile is transforming.
How do I care for my Invisalign trays?
Our dental team will provide care instructions when patients arrive in the dental practice to pick up their trays when completed. Dr. Palka Sawhney Sharma will walk patients through the steps of keeping their trays clean and knowing when to move to the next tray in the series.
Are the results permanent?
Patients are advised to wear a retainer at night once they have achieved their results. This helps maintain the results so that they are permanent. If patients notice any shifting that has occurred even with the wearing of a retainer, a set of “permanent braces” may be placed to keep the results. These brackets and wires are often placed behind the dental arch and are invisible to others. Patients may be advised to wear their final tray to provide permanent improvements.
How much does Invisalign cost?
The cost of Invisalign is typically very comparable to that of traditional metal and bracket wire braces. When patients are seeking a more discreet option for their smiles, Invisalign can play the role. To get an accurate idea of the cost of treatment, we advise our patients to book an appointment with our team.
