Parents in Pine Creek are Discovering the Importance of Infant Dental Visits

Kids Dentist at Lake Chaparral Dental Care Near Me Pine Creek Area

As a parent to a young child or infant you may have asked yourself the question “Where is a dentist near me that specializes in kids care?” Having a dedicated dentist that specializes in dental issues that are unique to young children is something that many new parents take seriously. Many children won’t see a dentist until they are 2 years old, but dental professionals recommend that children see the dentist for the first time when they are just a year old or within 6 months after they get their first tooth if it comes in before. Dr. Palka Sawhney Sharma and her team at Lake Chaparral Dental Care understand the importance of early dental hygiene and provides quality dental service for kids in the Pine Creek area.

Primary Teeth and Their Importance

There are quite a few reasons why parents may not understand the importance of getting their infant in for their first dental visit and miss this important landmark. Many parents may think that, since their child doesn’t have a tooth in yet, that there is just not a need. Other parents may think their infant is just too young and not ready for such an experience. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) stresses the importance of keeping an infant’s primary teeth, also called baby teeth, in a strong and healthy state until they are able to fall out naturally. There are several reasons these baby teeth are important, including:

  • Primary teeth play a critical role in proper chewing and ensuring your child is getting the nutrition they need
  • Primary teeth are important for proper speech development
  • Primary teeth ensure there is proper spacing for incoming permanent teeth
  • Primary teeth play a role in your child’s self-esteem via a healthy smile

Making sure your child has seen a dentist by the recommended age will also provide you, the parent, with several benefits. One such benefit is regular discussions with your child’s dentist that help educate you on the best ways to care for your child’s teeth.
