Meet your dentist - Dr. Palka Sawhney Sharma
My name is Dr. Palka Sawhney Sharma. I am a general dentist in Calgary, and my journey into dentistry began about 15 years ago. I got interested in dentistry because I have always had a passion for helping people.
I have also had a creative vision, and I thought that dentistry is the perfect blend of that. To be able to help people with their oral health, with their teeth, and also to help create some beautiful smile in the process.
I started my journey at the University of Alberta, where I obtained an honours neuroscience undergraduate degree. After completing that degree, I was accepted into the University of Alberta’s dentistry program.
When I graduated, I still had this desire to learn more, especially about surgery and dental implants in particular. I applied to a program at the Philadelphia Albert Einstein Medical Center.
I went there for a year initially to do a general practice residency program. While here I was introduced to very simple to very complicated general dentistry, as well as surgical cases.
For my second year, I was acting as the chief resident and was introduced to more complicated cases, especially implant cases. I also helped to guide seven residents who were junior to me at that time.
After that, I moved to Toronto, and I practiced there for about five years. Then we moved to Calgary, and I have been practicing in Calgary for the last five years.
I came on to Lake Chaparral Dental Care two and half years ago, and it has been fantastic patients have been wonderful and, the staff has been great.

Patricia Balan, Reception
Tricia had plans to be a family therapist but somehow stumbled into dentistry. When she got her first job in a dental office, it was to be a short-term gig but that was 30 years ago! The diversity and the challenge of the role were enticing but it’s the biggest reward has been the people she has met along the way.
But, how did this prairie chicken from Saskatoon, SK end up in Calgary, AB? She fell in love with an Alberta boy so she followed him and her heart here. Now, Calgary is her 2nd home, she has enjoyed the mild winters, the mountains, and a lack of mosquitoes!
In her off-hours, Tricia likes to volunteer and has lots of hobbies to keep her busy. But her greatest delight is spending time with family and friends!
